Network briefing – The Northern Powerhouse

The North faces a deepening housing crisis and needs to accelerate development. Yet housing has so far not figured heavily in the debate around the Northern Powerhouse within government circles. Global infrastructure firm AECOM argues that incorporating housebuilding into decision-making and planning now will help avoid the crisis deepening. It says decision makers should focus on improving existing stock, strengthening communities and building new homes to accommodate planned growth and ensure that people will want to live and work in the North. Local and regional authorities need not overlook housing when allocating funds associated with the Northern Powerhouse.
